To say that this was a special wedding to photograph is an huge understatement. Where to begin? Well, my brother got married… in Hawaii… with an amazing girl… with all the family, friends and relatives there… at the Secret Island at Kualoa Ranch… in Oahu, Hawaii… so yes, special doesn’t really cover it.
As some of you might know my brother is also a wedding photographer (you can find his stuff over at Henrik Sandin Photography) and they have done a few weddings as a team so you would think they would have had a pretty good schedule for their day… no sir, not at all. The evening before we sat down to look over the day and I started sweating and in the end I said, ”we’ll make it work, it will be awesome”, gave them a hug and walked away with my brain going ”shit shit shit”.
I don’t know how but with people like Cynthia and Henrik, as well as all the family and friends all staying in the same huge house, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that the schedule came together perfectly by itself as the day moved forward. The atmosphere was super relaxed as it should when you’re in a paradise like Hawaii.
Being Swedish I need to mention the weather and we were lucky lucky lucky. When I arrived to the island the first thing I was told was that a hurricane was coming and it was going to hit on the day of the wedding or the day before. Of course we were monitoring the weather forecast and it went from hurricane to tropical storm to missing the island passing just north of where we were going to be and in the end the weather was amazing especially considering how close it was to being a hurricane.
So how was it to be the wedding photographer at my brothers wedding? Well, honestly I would have loved to be there as only the brother but how can you say no to your brother and his bride! And a destination wedding in Hawaii, well, let’s be honest, I don’t get tons of requests for that… We had a deal though, I wasn’t allowed to ”only work” I needed to have fun (and I mean party fun, not fun photographing a great wedding) so it did change my workflow somewhat but I think we did ok and more importantly, it was an amazingly fun day (and I mean party fun!)
Cynthia, Henrik, thank you so much for an amazing day!
Here’s a few of the images from the day, have a look and share in our smiles.
By the way, Charles, Jong Ah, thanks for your help being where I couldn’t!
I just have to add one in here of me, my brother (yes, we are twins) and his beautiful wife Cynthia. That’s us! Me on the right as if that wasn’t painfully obvious. I was definitely more sweaty than I appear in the photo
